Oceans Were Taller in Other Dimensions, is a series of solo exhibitions bearing the same title, exploring the interplay between painting, sculpture, music, and the spaces they inhabit.

Kiernander’s work generates a rhythmic flow. With meticulous precision, he investigates the formal aspects of painting and drawing. By blending multiple perspectives, exploring their intersections, and layering techniques, he examines the inherent duality of background and foreground, ultimately treating the interplay between image and ground as a form in itself.

Kiernander’s artistic journey has been profoundly shaped by his early engagement with music. During his youth, he drew inspiration from genres such as jazz, cut-up hip-hop, house, and techno. His passion for music led him to become a DJ, immersed in the club and rave culture of the early 1990s. The dim, cavernous spaces of those late-night gatherings became a backdrop for his explorations in electronic music and painting.

The rhythms of Kiernander’s compositions resonate through distorted spatial dimensions, often lacking a horizon or defined perspective. This evokes the sensation of being “lost in the music.” His process mirrors the structure of counterpoint, where individual elements maintain their autonomy yet interdependently contribute to a cohesive whole. The resulting imagery could be likened to musique concrète or electroacoustics, forming visual environments that elicit deep emotional resonance.
